Wakame from La Patrona: dried seaweed of European origin
Wakame (Undaria pinnatifida) is a slightly smooth seaweed with an olive green to brown color and with long rubbery, single leaves with wavy edges, which can grow to almost two meters in length. The wakame of La patrona is of European origin, namely from Spain. This seaweed contains calcium, vitamins A, B, C and K. It is also rich in protein, iron, magnesium, iodine, sodium, chromium, zinc, phosphorus and potassium. After nori and kombu, wakame is the most commonly used seaweed in Japanese cuisine.
You use algae as very versatile and healthy sea vegetables
Wakame has a delicate and sweet taste with a clean aroma, reminiscent of oysters in taste. You eat this algae fresh, pre-cooked or marinated, cook it with soups, stews, oven dishes, brown rice and quinoa, eat it raw and marinated in small pieces in salads, vegetables and stir-fries, use it roasted as a seasoning. Process it just like any other leafy vegetable, in soups, salads or on bread.
Why buy seaweed from La Patrona?
The various seaweeds are harvested by hand in the Galician estuaries, washed, dehydrated and packed by La patrona in biodegradable packaging, free of plastic. Harvesting is done on foot or by diving at a shallow depth and using a boat. The algae are cut off, leaving the rhizoid (root) so they can continue to grow. This seaweed is fully certified organic.
